ILLUSTRATING NATURE IN SPRING
Creating a Folding Naturescape
SATURDAY 6TH & SUNDAY 7TH APRIL 2024
10AM - 4PM

£145

On The Holt Estate in the beautiful South Downs National Park, there are a variety of habitats and many species that will inspire us for this workshop.  The hedgerows are coming to life with the trees and shrubs bursting with buds, returning and new plants emerging, birds starting to nest and the early butterflies on the wing.
During this workshop you will be introduced to the Folding Naturescape, a dynamic forma
t in which to draw and paint your observations of nature.  Botanical subjects will be drawn from life and there will also be natural history specimens and images provided for additional subjects, that will include insects and birds.
Time will be spent initially studying our chosen subjects prior to carefully drawing them. You may then use pen and ink, pen and watercolour or just watercolour to add further details and interest.
Sarah will provide tuition in group demonstrations and individually, ensuring that your individual learning needs and experience are accounted for.
The Folding Naturescape that you start during this workshop can be continued at home or you may wish to attend the summer and autumn workshops at The Holt to add further seasonal subjects and illustrations.
SKILL LEVEL
This workshop is for those
with some experience of detailed drawing and painting techniques.

ILLUSTRATING NATURE IN SUMMER
Creating a Folding Naturescape
SATURDAY 8TH & SUNDAY 9TH JUNE 2024

10AM - 4PM
£145

On The Holt Estate in the beautiful South Downs National Park, there are a variety of habitats and many species that will inspire us for this workshop.  The trees are in full leaf with signs of new fruits developing.  There are a wider variety of butterflies in the summer months and the Swallows are on the wing, feeding on insects in the warm air.  Discover the mammal species that also have their homes at The Holt.  At night there are several bat species that roost and forage on the estate, along with numerous moth species.
During this workshop you will be introduced to the Folding Naturescape, a dynamic format in which to draw and paint your observations of nature.  Botanical subjects will be drawn from life and there will also be natural history specimens and images provided for additional subjects, that will include insects, birds, large and small mammals.

THE SEASHORE PALETTE
Painting the seashore in watercolour
SATURDAY 22nd & SUNDAY 23rd JUNE 2024

10AM -  4PM
£150
(price includes ‘dot card’ of Schmincke special effect water colours)

When visiting the coast, many of us love nothing better than to walk along the beach seeing the many natural treasures we can discover.
During this workshop there will be many of these treasures to study, draw and paint.  We will spend time initially studying our subjects, understanding their structure and familiarising ourselves with their texture and colour.  Moving forward we will then carefully draw our chosen subjects and follow on with painting them in watercolours.
Watercolour paints have a variety of properties, some we favour and others not.  Granulation is one of these and paints that granulate can be used in a favourable and exciting way, whether using warm or cool colours.  If you are not familiar with them, Sarah will guide you in which ones to choose that most suit the subject.
As part of this workshop you will also receive a ‘dot card’ with samples of Schmincke special effect watercolours
