Pen & Ink Drawing Techniques for Natural History Illustration

This will be Sarah's first workshop since the August publication of her book 'Natural History Illustration in Pen & Ink'.

This workshop is suitable for those new to illustrating in pen and ink, but do have experience of accurate drawing techniques and also those that wish to refine and develop their pen and ink skills further.

Join her as she guides you through the stages of creating a natural history illustration in pen and ink, with a particular focus on accurate drawing alongside effective and realistic mark-making techniques.

She will also guide you through the range of equipment and materials used for working in this media.  This will include the use of technical drawing and fine line pens.

There is also the option of bringing your own subject matter or you may choose from the wide selection provided by Sarah. Please chat with Sarah if you wish to bring your own to gauge suitability.

There are many items that are lost and found with a story behind their origins.  They can be fascinating subjects to illustrate for leisure but also for interpretation purposes.  Therefore, this workshop is suitable for those who would like to expand their options for subject matter and also those individuals that may work in the museum sector and wish to become familiar with illustration techniques.

The main media we will be using is pen and ink, with the option to add a watercolour wash for enhancement.

There will be a particular focus on accurate drawing alongside effective and realistic mark-making techniques.

Sarah will also guide you through the range of equipment and materials used for working in this media.  This will include the use of technical drawing and fine line pens.
